Our book, Parenting by Strengths:A Parent's Guide for challenging Situations,(click book in the column to the right) is directly and indirectly based on the concepts of positive psychology which is the scientific study of what goes right in life. Parenting challenges are seen as opportunities and learning experiences with suggested solutions designed to help you act in the best interests for your family. This is a strength model in which individual family members can use their character strengths in ways that enhance the self-esteem and confidence of your biracial and multiracial children.
Within this strength model happy families are described as having five character strengths: fairness, honesty, forgiveness, teamwork, and social intelligence (Peterson, 2006).

It is exciting to talk with parents about possibilities. As a coach, that is my job. I help people RECOGNIZE so they can act on the possibilities that exist in their life. Seven of the coaches on this blog got together to write a book about a favorite topic-- Finding strengths to meet the challenges of parenting. Often I am asked, as I am sure you are, "What's new?" Lately I have been able to answer, well I have been part of writing a book, now produced a book. If you would like to hear more about the book, download this link and wait, it takes a few minutes to land on your computer

As a parent coach I am able to use my years of training, work and love of happy family life to push people towards their happy family plan. As a business life coach, the same applies, coaching helps those who are functioning well go for their dreams, their goals. I was recently talking with one of my favorite people, fashion maven, personal brander and all-around creative business developer, Robin Walker. We decided a good metaphor for coaching was learning to believe and act like the proverbial bear is NOT at the door. That is, recognizing that fear is challenge to our development. We may have learned that it is wise to act like or we must act like "doom is on the door step". ...that is-- reacting always fast and furious, always being a bit frenzied so we can be sure to be ready for what is next. It is a 'bad habit' indeed! There are easier ways to manage what we don't know about the future. Using coaching helps us to use our strengths to be ready for what is next and much more effectively ... So if it seems like a bear is chasing you and want more, listen to the link, read or just ask about coaching. Contact me. Coaching can make all the difference!
